A North Star trip is, in fact, a rail cruise.  While enjoying comfortable accommodations, great service and delicious meals, our guests watch America unfold before them as the landscape glides by.

Routes
For most charters, The North Star operates as part of a regularly-scheduled Amtrak intercity train. Based in St. Louis, Missouri at historic St. Louis Union Station, many North Star trips begin in Chicago where Amtrak routes radiate out in all directions. Trips usually operate between major Amtrak end points such as Chicago to Oakland/San Francisco or Chicago to Washington, DC.  The North Star may be set-out at most major Amtrak terminals and some smaller enroute stations.

Costs
Private rail car charter quotes vary greatly by route, duration of trip and other factors.  However, in general trip quotes are in the range of $3,500 - $5,000 per day. This rate covers six guests for overnight portions and up to twelve for daylight journeys.  Quotes are inclusive of the following: lease of The North Star, two crew members (chef and steward), food and beverage (house wines and beers only, special request beverages available at an additional charge), all Amtrak and freight railroad mileage, switching, service and parking fees.

Types of Trips
The North Star has seen the following uses:  political whistle stop campaigns, anniversary, honeymoon, executive retreat and business uses, personal getaways and event trains such as specials to the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras and Kentucky Derby.
